Another Day, Another President? Peru President Impeachment Explained

PERU PRESIDENT IMPEACHMENT We have gotten several messages regarding the political climate and protesting here in Peru…..this is a recap directly from news and we are not making any political statement here:

PERU President Impeachment: Peru's Congress impeached and removed President Dina Boluarte from office on October 10, 2025, appointing José Jerí as her successor. Heavy protesting over rising crime and corruption allegations led to President Dina Boluarte’s impeachment, she has faced 8 impeachment hearing in last two years. Boluarte's impeachment came as we have seen a huge surge in violent crime, murder rates and culminated in a big shooting at a major concert in Lima. Congress said they had to act after months of protests and rampant increase in crime. Boluarte’s approval rating was as low as 2% to 3% in recent polls.

José Jerí was sworn in as president line of succession. As the president of Congress, Jerí was next in line to become president. Jerí declared "war on crime.” The 38-year-old conservative lawmaker is relatively inexperienced and has faced scrutiny over past sexual assault and corruption accusations, which he denies.

Peru's had 8 presidents in ten years. Peru will have new elections in April 2026.

We are not in the any danger zone at the orphanage and areas we serve in Arequipa, Peru, nor have experienced any protests.

We love Perú ! It’s all love!
